Day 22 – Geranium

There are several types of Geranium and the essential oils generally come from a different variety of plant than the geraniums you would typically see as house plants. Geranium is considered native to South Africa, but it now grows in many parts of the world. DoTERRA’s essential oils are sourced from plants grown in the Reunion Island and are steam extracted from the leaf of the plant.

Geraniaceae_-_Geranium_caespitosum_var_fremontii-1Geranium essential oil is perfect for a diffuser when you are looking for an uplifting effect, and something that is soothing and calming to the nerves. You can also use it topically or in lotions and ointments. It has a hint of rose to it, so it is widely used in perfumes and skin care. Geranium can be used topically to help with the pain of arthritis and aid in circulation. It also has a boosting effect to the immune system and can be used to help clear mucus. Additionally, geranium can be used to help take away the pain of minor scrapes and bruises. All around, it has a lovely scent and many every-day type uses, a fantastic oil to have on hand!
