Day 11 – TerraShield®

TerraShield® is a proprietary blend of 15 different super concentrated oils by doTERRA. It contains Lemon, Eucalyptus, Citronella, Lemongrass and 11 other CPTG oils in a base of Fractionated Coconut Oil. It is used to repel insects in a natural way, without harmful chemicals such as DEET. Though DEET his highly effective at repelling insects, it has also been shown to have a number of harmful side effects, including inducing seizures. Scary!

You can apply TerraShield® neat and rub just a little bit of it in for up to 6 hours of protection from all the creepy crawlys you’d really rather NOT have make you their lunch! Better still is that, since this is a natural blend of doTERRA’s CPTG oils, free of chemicals and impurities, TerraShield® is safe for the whole family. As with any other oil, you do want to be careful with application around the eyes. And the coconut oil in it is extremely nourishing for your skin! BugBarsHero

My friend Dana over at Bloom Doula has a fantastic portable recipe for Bug Repellant Bars that would be wonderful to pack on your next picnic or vacation. They’re individually sized and super easy for the kids to apply themselves. I will be whipping up a batch of these just as soon as my Shea Butter arrives.

Since I babysit a couple of kids during the day, and as everyone who knows me will tell you I am the biggest baby when it comes to bugs, these will be great to have on hand to rub on the kiddos before we go outside to play!

But if you’re looking for yet another reason to go au-natural with your bug repellant options, check out this article on Earth Talk about the green alternatives to DEET. It’s a small mention but there is one in there about the benefits of essential oils!
