Day 5 – Frankincense

As we all know, Frankincense was one of the things given to Christ at his birth, and throughout history, it has been extremely valuable, more valuable than gold. It has long been considered medicinally to be calming to the senses, the emotional state and overall wellbeing. Frankincense has antiseptic, anti-fungal, analgesic, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, diuretic and sedative properties.

Frankincense has many uses and applications. For mood it can be diffused, applied topically during a massage or directly inhaled. It has a rich aromatic scent that is both pleasing and relaxing. When using Frankincense for skin care in cases of eczema, acne or other issues, it is recommended to dilute it with a carrier oil such as Fractionated Coconut Oil and apply directly. It is also great during cold and flu season as an immune booster.

Modern medicine is delving into exactly what Frankincense can do for overall inflammation, as many chronic disease have their roots in this common problem. The drugs used to then treat these diseases can cause even more damage to the body. Doctors are seeing improvements in the inflammation process with the use of Frankincense. I personally will put it in a Neti-Pot for use during sinus infections and congestion along with Lavender, Melaleuca and/or Rosemary. Frankincense is one of the more expensive essential oils, however, with all of it’s amazing properties, in my opinion, it’s worth every penny!

It’s a little strange looking in it’s resin form, but don’t let looks fool you Frankincense is a valuable and powerful oil!
